5Nearsightedness
One of the earliest signs of cataracts is nearsightedness. In other words, you might need a reading pair of glasses to see something small clearly. In general, the lens inside the eyes is similar to that of a camera, which focuses light on the retina and allows you to see everything around clearly both far away and up close. This part is mainly comprised of protein and water, and the protein is organized in a special way which enables lights to pass through it. Since cataracts make the proteins to clump together, it might be more difficult for you to read small prints and discern them in the refractive mirror of your eyes. That’s why distance vision and waxy or blurry reading is among the most common symptom of cataracts. [5]
