6Obesity
Being overweight, also termed obese, can cause many different health complications. One is the development of hemorrhoids. This is due to a few different reasons. First, as mentioned previously, one of the main factors of hemorrhoids is pressure. When an individual is overweight, the body isn’t built to withstand that excess weight. Thus, body fat significantly increases pressure on the anal and rectal vessels. Typically, someone who is obese is also not active and leads a more sedentary lifestyle. Sitting for long periods of time with that weight on top of the anal and rectal vessels and muscles can also correlate to the development of hemorrhoids. Adults in the United States have a great risk. Depending on the specific state [9], the population percentages ranged from greater than 35% to as low as 22% of that state’s population having obesity.
