Symptoms of Lindsay’s nails and Terry’s nails are quite similar to each other. Both conditions are characterized by color changes of the nails and are usually triggered by an underlying medical condition. However, Lindsay’s nails, also known as half-and-half nails, only cause the opacification in around half of your proximal nail bed. More specifically, people with Lindsay’s nails may notice brownish red around the tip and white at the nail bases.
The exact causes of Lindsay’s nails are still unknown. However, scientists believe that chronic anemia because of kidney failure would cause nailbeds to become pale. On the other hand, the dark tone at the top part of the nails is mainly caused by high melanin levels. That’s why Lindsay’s nails are often reported in those with chronic kidney disease. [11]
