Many conditions show similar symptoms to these of Terry’s nails. These include true leukonychia partialis/totalis, Muehrcke’s nails, or Lindsay’s nails, also known as half-and-half nails.
– While both Lindsay’s nails and Terry’s nails may occur in those chronic renal illnesses and lead to ground glass opacities, Lindsay’s nails only cause the opacification in around half of your proximal nail bed.
– Muehrcke’s nails are characterized by a unique pattern of transverse, white, paired lines that usually are spread along with the thumbnails. They are often associated with chemotherapy and hypoalbuminemia. In addition, an increase in serum albumin may reverse the pathological changes in people with Muehrcke’s nails.
– True leukonychia partialis/totalis might mimic Terry’s nails on initial inspection. Nevertheless, it tends to cause symptoms in the nail plate instead of the nail bed. This causes a true leukonychia to grow out with the nails. [8]
