While it is rare, a swollen ear canal may be caused by a fungal infection, which occurs when fungi like Aspergillus or Candida overgrow in the ear. It is more common in subtropical and tropical regions. Those who undergo an extended period of antibiotic use or practice a lot of water sports, such as surfing or diving, may also be at a higher risk. Weather conditions in the summer make people more prone to fungal infection as well. When this happens, your ear may appear red and swollen. You would feel relatively uncomfortable and itchy as well.
