6Treatments for Stye and Chalazia
Both chalazia and styes can be treated by similar treatments. However, not every option is suitable for both conditions. Common treatments include:
– Corticosteroid shots can help reduce swelling
– OTC medicated pads, eyewash products, and ointmnent can help keep the eyelids clean and clear of bacteria. These products only work for styes
– Warm compresses can speed up healing and remove bacteria. You can simply use a washcloth soaked in hot water and apply it to the eyelid a few times during the day
– Antibiotics are suitable for treating an infected stye
– Surgery can help drain fluids from a stye or chalazion, which would obstruct the vision
Avoid squeezing or rubbing chalazia or syes at home as it would spread the infection and worsen the symptoms. If you have the symptoms, do not use eye makeups or wear contact lenses. Inform your healthcare provider if you feel pain or vision changes during the treatment. [8]
