8Type 4
Type 4 is the least common form of spinal muscular atrophy. Most symptoms often start during adulthood, including proximal muscle atrophy and weakness. This makes it very difficult to play sports, lift heavy items, or climb stairs. They could also have mild tremors during the movement of weak muscles. Mild breathing issues can occur as well. Fortunately, this type of spinal muscular atrophy might not affect life expectancy. [8]
