6Type 2
Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy is characterized by muscle weakness. The symptom tends to start between 4 and 12 months of age. For those infants who already learn how to use and control the muscles, they would lose some of these capabilities and cannot walk or stand properly. Muscle tremors, especially in the fingers, would develop. It might also trigger respiratory muscle weakness, which subsequently disrupts breathing patterns and increases the risk of respiratory infections. The curvature of the spine or scoliosis is not uncommon in babies with type 2 spinal muscular atrophy. [6]
