There are many methods to diagnose sinus arrhythmia. The most common option is an electrical recording of your heart rhythm. This process can be done with a machine called an electrocardiogram, also known as an EKG or ECG. It measures different parts of the heart, including the rhythms, rate, and intervals between each beat. The heart rate in each minute is often normal for people with respiratory sinus arrhythmia. Nevertheless, the time between each beat would vary, normally shorter when you breathe in and longer when you breathe out. The average difference between the shortest and longest intervals is approximately 0.12 seconds. This can be a clear sign of sinus arrhythmia. [5]
