13Bowel Irregularities
One of the more common symptoms of hypothyroidism is constipation which is as a result of small intestine bacterial overgrowth, SIBO. This might be because the inadequate production of thyroid hormones has affected the digestive process. On the other hand, if you experience frequent diarrhea or loose stools, hyperthyroidism might be the cause. What happens is that when there is a disruption in the production of thyroid hormones, the digestive system is affected and it is either it slows down (constipation), or it speeds up (diarrhea).
