Applying heat and cold packs is the simplest way to alleviate pain or swelling caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Cold can be effective in reducing inflammation and numbing pain, while heat is good for stiff joints. You can put a cold pack directly on the affected area or soak your joints in cold weather. Similarly, place a hot pack on the tissues or take a hot bath in around 10 to 15 minutes to help ease your pain and relax muscles. It is a good idea to alternate between cold and heat applications.
