7Medications
Your doctor might prescribe some medications that reduce the levels of ammonia because it would worsen brain swelling. These include ammonia detoxicants and corticosteroids to alleviate swelling or insulin to improve glucose metabolism. Certain drugs can also help prevent internal bleeding caused by liver abnormalities and dysfunction. Common options include platelets, plasma, and vitamin K, especially for children with advanced Reye’s syndrome. Other problems like metabolic issues, cardiac arrest, and gastrointestinal or kidney complications can be improved with medications.[7]
