11Medical Conditions
People with heart disease, particularly heart failure, are at higher risk of developing pulmonary embolism. When the cardiovascular system does not work properly, blood cannot be pumped effectively as usual. As such, it is more likely to form blood clots in many body parts, including the lungs. Some forms of cancer, such as kidney, lung, stomach, colon, pancreas, ovary, and brain can also a possible cause of this condition. The development and growth of cancerous cells would prevent blood from flowing properly and cause clots. Last but not least, several inherited disorders can affect the blood, thus making it more susceptible to pulmonary embolism. [11]
