Several gene variations and genes can increase the risk of developing polymyalgia rheumatica. Recent studies have found out HLA-DR4, a specific gene in many people with this health condition and rheumatoid arthritis. However, the exact mechanism is still unknown. If you have close relatives, such as parents or siblings, with a history of polymyalgia rheumatica, you are more likely to suffer from it. Several genetic tests can be performed to detect the condition early and take proper preventive measures. [9]
