For non-displaced fractures, a splint or cast is necessary to keep the knee straight and prevent the leg from moving. This would keep your broken bones in the right position during the healing process. In more serious cases when the bone pieces are displaced, certain surgical procedures are necessary to put these parts into the right place. Depending on the type of fracture and severity, there are certain options available. The timing is also important. An open fracture needs to be treated as soon as possible to prevent infection.
