8Surgical Procedures
In addition to deep brain stimulation, some surgical procedures can be used for treating Parkinson’s disease:
– rTMS or repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation: This is a non-invasive option that can help with depression caused by Parkinson’s disease. It involves the sending of magnetic pulses into your brain through a coil. During this process, you are not sedated and fully awake.
– Lesion surgery: This procedure creates a lesion in the brain region that causes Parkinson’s symptoms.
– Gene therapy and stem cell therapy: These are new approaches to treat Parkinson’s disease. However, they are still being tested in research. [8]
