65 Causes of Neuromyelitis Optica
Infection
Contracting an infection, especially caused by viruses, can increase the risk of developing neuromyelitis optica. This cause is more common in people with a genetic predisposition, which would be passed from their parents. Many different organisms are associated with this health issue, notably chlamydia pneumoniae, helicobacter pylori, treponema pallidum, mycobacterium tuberculosis, and mycoplasma pneumoniae. The way these elements trigger neuromyelitis optica is still unknown. However, scientists believe that they might have a possible link to autoimmune disorders or similar conditions. More research and supporting data are needed to confirm these assumptions. [6]
