Myoclonic Seizure – What It Is, Symptoms & Treatment

2Signs and Symptoms of Myoclonic Seizure

Myoclonic seizures usually start in early childhood. They are mainly characterized by brief jerking movements that usually happen before you fall asleep or wake up. However, they may also occur at any times during the day. People with myoclonic seizures may have at least another form of seizures as well. Common symptoms may include:

– Loss of awareness or consciousness

– Muscle contractions and jerks

– Weakness, typically in a particular part of the body

– Staring into blank space

– Anxiety before a seizure

Keep in mind that myoclonic seizures can be divided into other subtypes, which have specific symptoms. [2]
