8Venous Diseases
Similar to smoking, venous diseases can also affect your blood flow in the veins, thus causing lymphedema in many people. The damaged or abnormal veins could cause fluids to overflow from your veins to the tissue areas. As a result, it can overwhelm and eventually exhaust the parts of your lymphatic system which is responsible for draining the fluid. A few venous diseases that would result in lymphoedema include DVT or deep vein thrombosis – a blood clot in your deep veins, or varicose veins – enlarged and swollen veins. [8]
