Lhermitte’s sign is common in people with multiple sclerosis. This condition occurs when the body mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the central nervous system, which includes the spinal cord and brain. Specifically, it causes damage to the protective layer covering nerve fibers called the myelin sheath. This leads to the interruption of signal flows to different parts of the central nervous system, which causes different motor and sensory problems.
