8Obesity
Another common cause of ischemic heart disease is obesity. This health issue can increase the risk in three different ways. Firstly, obesity would lead to diabetes, which is closely linked to high blood pressure and high cholesterol – two major risk factors for heart disease. In addition, people with obesity tend to have higher blood pressure because their bodies tend to need more oxygen and blood to operate than others. Lastly, obesity can change the levels of cholesterol. Studies have shown that this condition might cause a surge in triglyceride and bad cholesterol as well as result in a reduction in good HDL cholesterol. [8]
