7Brain Surgery
In serious cases, brain surgery may be done to remove the brain region where seizures occur. There are two types of surgery for treating intractable epilepsy:
– Palliative to minimize the severity and frequency of seizures. Common options include multiple subpial transection and corpus callosotomy.
– Curative: to eliminate the seizures. Common options include amygdalohippocampectomy, lensionectomy, hemispherectomy, and anterior temporal lobectomy
You need to talk with your healthcare provider to know whether brain surgery is the right choice for your condition. The success rates may range from 50 to 90 percent, depending on the type of surgery. [8]
