Pregnant women are usually at a higher risk of developing an inguinal hernia than other people. This is because the fetus might put more pressure on the abdomen. In the long run, it weakens the muscle and allows a part of the intestine to push through easily. An increase in body weight can also contribute to this health issue. In fact, there is a variety of factors that make it more likely for an inguinal hernia to develop during pregnancy. These include having twins or more, previous abdominal surgery, lifting heavy things, or obesity. [10]
