8How to Diagnose Inflammatory Breast Cancer
It is not easy to diagnose inflammatory breast cancer because the symptoms may also be caused by a breast injury or infection. A physical exam can be done to look for potential signs. Based on the initial results, your doctor may conduct additional tests to confirm the findings and find out how cancerous cells have progressed. These would include an X-ray, MRI, CT scan, PET scan, and biopsy. A set of criteria can be used to make a diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer:
– Symptoms on at least one-third of the breast
– Symptoms appear quickly
– Symptoms last no more than 3 months
– Biopsy results suggest invasive cancer [8]
