Inflammatory breast cancer is different from other forms of breast cancer in the following ways:
– It is not likely to cause a mass in the breast
– Skin changes and swelling: The condition may lead to dimpling, discoloration, and swelling. The affected breast would be heavier, warmer, redder, and have bruises
– The symptoms may grow quickly and spread aggressively in a few months
– It tends to affect people at a younger age than other forms of breast cancer
– The occurrence is rare, which accounts for approximately 1 to 5 percent of reported breast cancer cases
– Diagnosis tends to be made at stage 3 or 4
– Prognosis is usually not good [2]
