10Prognosis of People with Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Since inflammatory breast cancer is more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer, it typically has lower survival rates. Most cases are diagnosed in stage 3 or 4. At that point, cancerous cells have already spread to other areas in the body. The 5-year survival rates for inflammatory breast cancer are estimated as follows:
– Regional cancer (cancerous cells have spread to surrounding tissues or lymph nodes): 52 percent
– Distant cancer (cancerous cells have spread to further parts of the body like bones, liver, or lungs): 18 percent [10]
