5Kidney Stones
Kidney stones are small pieces of excess minerals, mostly calcium, in your blood. Hyperparathyroidism is by far the most common cause of this health issue. When your parathyroid gland produces too much hormone, the levels of calcium will also increase accordingly. Since your body cannot absorb all of them, the remaining amount will build up over time and form these small stones. It is estimated that up to 50% of people with kidney stones have a tumor in their neck, around the parathyroid gland. In most cases, this condition is very painful, especially when you are urinating. Some medications or surgery might be needed to eliminate those stones. [5]
