Intravenous fluids
Since hypernatremia develops from loss of body water or dehydration, the fastest way to deliver fluid to your body is through intravenous fluid IV. It is also a very effective way because the fluid is carried and circulated throughout the body. Intravenous fluid is known for fluid replacement and correcting electrolyte imbalances which are the causes of hypernatremia. The fluid is given from a bag connected to an intravenous line. The intravenous line is inserted into one of your veins, and the circulation process begins. Intravenous fluid can only be administered in a hospital by a medical practitioner to avoid infections and other complications arising. This tube method of passing fluids is administered to patients who are unable to take in fluids themselves. For instance, patients who have hypernatremia accompanied with vomiting and the ones in a coma will not be able to take in fluids without the help of intravenous fluid. [6]
