8Topical Insecticide
If you often walk your dogs in tick habitats or wooded areas, applying a topical insecticide can keep them away from these creatures. Many products contain ingredients that can make your pets less appealing to bugs. Some options can even kill ticks without harming your dogs. Ideally, you should apply topical insecticides between the shoulders and along the back. A dose would be effective in 1 to 3 months. After this period, you have to reapply the solution. Avoid touching the applied areas for several hours after the application so that the chemicals can sink into your dog’s skin. Check the ingredient list carefully if your pets are allergic to several components, especially fipronil, pyrethrin, and permethrin. [8]
