9Differential Diagnoses
In addition to ovarian cancer, some other conditions may cause a tumor in the ovary and surrounding areas. These include:
– Endometriosis: A disease that causes uterine tissue to grow out of the uterus
– Pelvic inflammatory disease
– Ovarian cysts
– Polycystic ovarian syndrome: A condition characterized by multiple cysts on the ovaries
– Benign ovarian tumors: Common in premenopausal women
– Ectopic pregnancy: It typically happens in early months of pregnancy and causes similar test results to ovarian cancer
– Corpus luteal cyst typically occurs during pregnancy
– Pelvic kidney
– Appendiceal abscess
– Ovarian torsion [9]
