6Surgery
In some cases, it is hard to diagnose ovarian cancer without surgery. The main purpose is to remove one of the ovary and exam for signs of cancer. There are two surgical procedures for this purpose:
– Laparoscopy is a small procedure to examine the abdomen. In this procedure, a thin tube with camera and light is put into your tummy to check the ovaries and take tissue samples for further analysis.
– Laparotomy examines the pelvis and abdomen to determine whether cancer cells have spread. In this procedure, a large cut is made in the middle of the tummy to look inside this area. You would need to stay in hospital for several days. If cancer cells are founded, the operation may continue to get rid of as much of cancer cells as possible. [6]
