Headache occurs with a feeling that could either be constant aches, or sharp and throbbing pains. It may last for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks, or even a few months in a severe case. In addition, headache often comes along with other symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, muscle pains, fatigue, photophobia, and sensitivity to sound.

Different types of headaches are featured with different symptoms. We will illustrate in the following content:

Tension headache

If you have a tension headache, you would experience dull aches and a sensation of tightness in the front, back, or sides of your head. Moreover, there is tenderness pain when pressing and touching your scalp, neck, and shoulder area. [2]

Migraine headaches

Just as the name implies, if you have a migraine headache, you would experience intense throbbing pain on one side of your head. Migraine is often related to genes and it could pass down from parents to children, affecting all ages in the family. [3]

Cluster headaches

If you have a cluster headache, you would experience a short but excruciating pain on one side of your head, alongside other symptoms such as sweating, swollen eyes, tearing, and runny nose. This type of headache is recurrent and often happens at the same time each year, which was called the cluster period. [4]
