6Infection
Infections are one of the most common triggers of high platelet count in both adults and kids. In many serious cases, the elevation could be extreme when the count might be higher than 1 million cells/microliter. Most of the patients tend to be asymptomatic. However, a minority of people with other triggers would have blood clots. The number of platelets usually returns to the normal level once the infection is treated, which might need a couple of weeks. [6]
