Hemorrhagic Stroke – Causes, Symptoms, Treatments, Prevention

4Causes of Hemorrhagic Stroke

The main cause of hemorrhagic strokes is bleeding in the brain. It would occur when an artery in this organ bursts open or a tissue in the brain begins to bleed. Due to the blockage of blood flow, it may cause damage to brain cells immediately. Brain tissue typically bleed after an ischemic stroke, which is triggered by a blockage of the blood supply. This causes damage to brain tissues and makes it more susceptible to bleeding. Therefore, the risk of having a hemorrhagic stroke is higher after a serious ischemic stroke with substantial tissue swelling and brain damage. Other possible causes include serious brain infections or brain tumors.  [6]

Risk Factors for Hemorrhagic Stroke

Some common risk factors of stroke include diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle, anxiety, stress, family history or personal history of heart issues or stroke, excessive alcohol consumption, a poor diet, the use of illicit drugs, excess weight around the abdomen and waist, and cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Specific risk factors for hemorrhagic strokes include problems with blood vessels, such as cerebral aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, or cerebral cavernous malformation. Specific risk factors for subarachnoid hemorrhage include the use of blood-thinning drugs, physical trauma, head injury, or bleeding conditions. [7]
