8Changes in Skin Colors
The accumulation of excess iron in your skin cells would lead to some color changes in the affected area. People with hemochromatosis tend to have a gray or bronze tone. Some commonly noticed parts of the body include scars, lid margin, nipples, elbow and knee creases, and external genitalia. Keep in mind that this symptom will not show up until the amount of iron exceeds the toxic level, which might take many months or even years. However, it indicates an advanced stage that requires immediate medical attention to avoid further complications. [8]
