Treatment options for HAE aims at on preventing an attack from occurring and reducing the severity of the symptoms when an attack happens. 7 medications can be used for treating HAE attacks. These include:

– Cinryze: This intravenous medication is a C1 esterase inhibitor. It can prevent HAE attacks from occurring in adults, teenagers, and children.

– Berinert: Made from human plasma, this is also an intravenous medication with C1 inhibitor concentrate. It can be used for adults and children.

– Ruconest: This is another intravenous medication. It is a recombinant C1 inhibitor concentrate that is free of plasma. It can be used for teenagers and adults.

– Haegarda: This is a plasma-derived, self-administered C1 esterase inhibitor concentrate that can treat symptoms of HAE attacks.

– Lanadelumab-flyo: This is a plasma-redived kallikrein inhibitor. It can be injected in those who are more than 12 years old.

– Icatibant: An injection of this B2 bradykinin receptor antagonist can treat acute attacks in those who are more than 18 years old.

– Ecallantide: An injection of this kallikrein inhibitor can treat acute attacks in those who are more than 12 years old.
