8Stress
The thyroid gland and the adrenal glands work together in many functions. When you encounter stress, the adrenal glands cannot handle it and release cortisol. This eventually affects your thyroid function and slows the metabolic rate. In the long run, stress can result in an imbalance of hormones. More specifically, the levels of thyroxine or T4 and triiodothyronine or T3 hormone can drop. These hormonal changes would increase the risk of developing goiters. [8]
