Gestational Diabetes Diet

Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that would develop in women with pregnancy. The condition happens when the body can’t make enough insulin hormone, which is important for turning sugar into energy to fuel the body. As a result, the bodyweight will increase, leading to other health issues such as frequent urination, nausea, tiredness, blurred vision, or bladder infections. It is estimated that around 2% to 10% of pregnant people are affected by this condition. Follow this guide to learn more about a standard gestational diabetes diet.

1Monitor Carbs

People with gestational diabetes should eat complex carbohydrates instead of simple carbohydrates. Keep in mind to space snacks and meals with carbs evenly during the day to avoid surges in blood sugar. The recommended amount is 2 meals and 2 snacks on a daily basis. In addition, you can regular your blood sugar by combining carbs with healthy fat or protein or sticking to complicated carbs that are rich in fiber. Avoid consuming too many carbs at one time or skipping meals. Last but not least, it is advisable to eat a fibrous and protein-rich carb breakfast. [1]
