Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA)
Ursodeoxycholic acid is a drug that changes the composition of bile. This treatment can be administered in a case where gallstones are formed due to excess cholesterol. It is a kind of dissolution treatment that slowly dissolves gallstones. This drug, however, takes a lot of time to work. Some medical studies have shown that Ursodeoxycholic acid starts the work of dissolving gallstones 3-6 months of the administration. Hence, it is not the best treatment if you are finding a fast means of treating your gallstones. Asides that, the drug is linked with side effects like diarrhea, indigestion, unusual bleeding, frequent urination, swelling of eyelids, face and lips, hair loss, etc. [7]
