11Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
For patients who cannot undergo surgery or use Ursodeoxycholic acid, they may undergo an ERCP treatment. ECRP is done by inserting an endoscope into your mouth and passing it down your throat into your duodenum. With the help of an X-ray, an electrically heated wire widens the opening of the bile duct and gallstones are removed. To make it easier, a local anesthetic may be given to you to numb your throat or make you drowsy. You may have a mild sore throat, nausea or abdominal cramps after this treatment. It is also essential that you rest for at least a day. [9]
