Surgery
If drugs do not work, a surgical procedure might be needed to control seizures. In most cases, it means that the doctor will remove the brain regions that are triggering the symptoms. Surgery is a possible option when the diagnostic tests indicate that the seizures come from a well-defined, small area. More importantly, the operated brain regions should not interfere with important functions, such as hearing, vision, motor function, language, or speech. After the surgery, many people can stop taking anti-seizure medications or would be able to reduce their dosages. Several complications can occur and affect cognitive abilities, but the possibilities are quite rare. [6]
