Symptoms in Children
Signs of epiglottitis in children might appear very quickly, typically in a few hours. Typical symptoms include serious sore throat, fever, drooling, pain, and trouble swallowing, high-pitched or unusual sounds while breathing in, and restless or anxious behavior. In general, kids with this condition tend to look extremely ill. They would have difficulty making eye contact and cannot recognize other people around them. To feel better, they might try a position that allows them to breathe better like sitting. The jaw can also be pushed forward, while the neck can be extended.[5]
