Causes of an Aneurysm
An aneurysm occurs when a vessel bursts and leads to internal bleeding, which interrupts blood flow to other internal organs. The exact cause is still not fully understood. However, scientists believe that damaged tissues in the arteries may contribute to this condition. Fatty deposits and other blockages would affect the arteries. As a result, the heart has to work harder to pump blood past the accumulation. This increases blood pressure and causes damage in the arteries. Another possible cause of an aneurysm is atherosclerotic disease, which causes plaque buildup that keeps blood from flowing properly. In addition, an aneurysm may be caused by high blood pressure, obesity, a diet high in cholesterol and fats, and smoking. The risk tends to be higher in people over 65 years old and men. [6]
