2Stages of Lyme Disease
Lyme disease has three separate stages:
– Stage 1: Early localized Lyme disease happens after a few days of a bite. Typical signs include skin irritation, muscle aches, chills, fever, and redness.
– Stage 2: Early disseminated Lyme disease happens after a few weeks of a bite. If left untreated, it may spread to other body parts and cause different symptoms.
– Stage 3: Late disseminated Lyme disease happens after a few months or even years of a bite. At this point, the bacteria may have spread to the remaining parts of the body. Certain symptoms include joint pain, arthritis, and neurological issues, such as short-term memory, extremity numbness, or shooting pain. [2]
