7Noisy Breathing
Another common sign of croup is noisy breathing, medically known as inspiratory stridor. It is a harsh, high-pitched, and loud noise that is made when you are breathing in. Do not confuse inspiratory stridor with wheezing, which is often triggered by inflammation in your lungs. Instead, the noise is caused when the larger airways become swollen due to the virus leading to croup. This symptom is more prevalent in children because their airways are typically smaller and more susceptible to a viral or bacterial infection. [7]
