Ileocaecal resection is a sub-type of resection that involves removing the terminal ileum and the beginning part of the large intestine and suturing the small intestine directly to the colon.

Colectomy & Proctocolectomy

Colectomy is a bowel resection that includes removing most or all parts of the colon (colectomy with ileostomy), removing the colon & creating an ileostomy (colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis), or removing the colon & the anal canal (proctocolectomy).
