10Risk Factors
Common risk factors for CREST syndrome include:
– Age: People from 30 to 50 years old are more prone to the condition.
– Sex: Women are more likely to develop CREST syndrome than men.
– Race: The condition is more serious in Native Americans and blacks than in white groups.
– Toxin and virus exposure: silica dust, cigarette smoking, drug use, Parvovirus B 19, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, trichloroethylene, silica, benzene, polyvinyl chloride, as well as exposure to other chemicals and organic solvents.
While it is impossible to prevent many risk factors, you can reduce the risk by having regular health checks to detect any abnormal symptoms early. [10]
