5OTC Painkillers
In the first 1 or 2 days after taking antibiotics, you may take OTC painkillers until the medications take effect. These OTC drugs would help alleviate fever caused by the infection as well as ease the pain and discomfort when you urinate. Common options include analgesic painkillers like acetaminophen or NSAIDs like ibuprofen. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen when you have a kidney issue as they would lead to complications. Keep in mind that these OTC medications are not a replacement for antibiotics. Common side effects include increased thirst, drowsiness, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, and stomach ache. [5]
