2Surgery
In some severe cases when the curves caused by scoliosis are more than 40 degrees, surgery might be needed to prevent further complications. However, the decision is up to you since the exact symptoms can vary from people to people. Consult your doctor carefully about this treatment if you feel that the disease is disrupting your daily life or triggering pain or discomfort. The most common surgical procedure for scoliosis is spinal fusion. During this process, the doctor will fuse the vertebrae together with screws, rods, and bone graft, which is comprised of bone or similar materials. The rods can keep the spine straight, while the screws can hold it in a fixed place. Over time, the vertebrae and bone graft will become a single bone. There are some possible risks of surgery, including nerve damage, pain, infection, slow healing, and excessive bleeding. [2]
