10Avoidance Mechanism
Young adults and children with dyslexia might make a deliberate attempt to avoid situations in which they have to speak, write, or read in front of their parents, teachers, or friends. Those avoidance mechanisms are especially common in older kids. What looks like laziness or poor organization might be just an excuse that they make use of to avoid the troubles related to dyslexia. In some cases, they even feign illness to avoid speaking in public due to the fear of embarrassment. Also, it is not uncommon to procrastinate on writing and reading assignments to put off the struggles for as long as they can. [10]
